Hypnosis to Quit Smoking in White Plains, NY
If you live or work in White Plains or anywhere in Westchester County and you're ready to stop smoking, I can help you understand the habit, change what drives it, and rehearse life without it.
Let me be direct about where I'm coming from. I'm a certified clinical hypnotherapist based in White Plains, New York, and quitting smoking is one of the five areas my practice focuses on. I work with people from White Plains, from across Westchester County, and from further afield, because every session runs online.
Most people who want to quit have already tried. Patches, gum, apps, willpower, cold turkey. Many managed a few days or weeks and then found themselves lighting up again on a stressful afternoon. If that's you, it doesn't mean you're weak. It usually means the method dealt with the nicotine and left the habit loop intact.
Smoking is a stress habit loop
Every habit runs on a loop: a cue, a routine, and a reward. I've written about it in more depth in the habit loop, but here is how it tends to look with smoking.
- The cue. Stress, boredom, a coffee, a drive, a break at work, a drink with friends.
- The routine. Reaching for the pack, stepping outside, lighting up.
- The reward. A moment of relief: a pause, a few deep breaths, a little space from whatever was pressing on you.
Notice that the reward is mostly about stress. A cigarette gives you permission to stop, step away, and breathe deeply. Your nervous system learns that smoking equals relief, and the loop strengthens every time you run it. That's why the urge is often strongest when life gets hard.
So we don't only work on the cigarette. We work on the stress the cigarette has been managing for you.
This is also why white-knuckling it is so draining. If smoking was your main way to handle stress, removing it without replacing it leaves your nervous system with nowhere to go. In our work, we give it somewhere to go.
How hypnosis helps you quit smoking
My approach combines hypnosis, Stoic philosophy, and NLP. Each has a specific job:
- Hypnosis lets us rehearse the new routine in a calm, focused state. The cue arrives, and you respond differently. Rehearsal in hypnosis is vivid, and it helps the new response feel familiar rather than forced.
- NLP changes what the old cues mean to you. We work with the mental pictures and inner voice attached to smoking, so the pull loosens.
- Stoic philosophy gives you a steady way to meet cravings. A craving is an impression, not a command. You can notice it, let it rise and fall, and choose your next action.
We also give your body another way to get the relief smoking used to provide. A simple breathing and regulation routine can give you the same pause and reset as a cigarette break, without the cigarette.
What the work looks like
- Intro session (1 hour, $199). We map your loop: when you smoke, why, and what each cigarette is doing for you. You experience hypnosis for yourself and leave with a clear quit plan and your first tool for handling cravings.
- Follow-up sessions (1 hour, $260 each). Each one targets a specific part of the loop, such as the morning coffee, the stressful workday, or the evening drink, and rehearses a new response.
- Your quit day. We plan it together, so you go into it with a strategy for the moments that used to pull you back.
Some hypnotists promise a one-session cure. I don't make promises like that, because everyone's loop is different. What I can offer is honest work, a clear plan, and a method aimed at the reason you smoke as well as the act itself.
How to prepare for your first session
You don't need to quit before we meet, and you don't need to have it all figured out. Three simple things help us make the most of the intro session:
- Notice your cues for a few days. Jot down when you smoke and what was happening just before. You'll start to see your loop before we even meet.
- Name your reasons. Write down why you want to quit, in your own words: health, money, family, freedom, whatever is true for you.
- Think about timing. Consider when a quit day might fit, ideally away from your most stressful week.
Bring whatever you notice. Nothing has to be perfect. The point is to arrive curious about your own habit, because curiosity is where change starts.
Why work with a local hypnotherapist in Westchester
There are national hypnosis apps and online programs, and some people do well with them. Working one-to-one with a local practitioner is different in three ways:
- It's personal. A recording can't ask why you always smoke in the car. I can.
- It adapts. If a session uncovers a trigger we didn't expect, the next one targets it.
- It's local. I'm based in White Plains, and you're working with a real person you can call at 914-497-3361.
Sessions are held online over Zoom, so you can take part from home in White Plains, Yonkers, New Rochelle, or anywhere else in Westchester County.
What to expect after you quit
Quitting brings changes, and I'd rather you know them up front. Cravings can still appear, especially in the first weeks and in the old cue moments. Stress will still happen. The aim of our work is that when it does, you have a practiced response ready, and a craving becomes something you ride out instead of something you obey.
If you're using nicotine replacement or a medication your doctor prescribed to help you quit, hypnotherapy can work alongside it. Please talk to your doctor about the medical side of quitting.

I tried to stop smoking for years and no matter what I tried it seemed hopeless. But after seeing The Stoic Hypnotist I get disgusted at the thought of smoking.

Hypnotherapy is a wellness service. It does not diagnose or treat medical or mental health conditions, and it works alongside care from a doctor or licensed professional, never in place of it.
Two ways to begin
Intro and follow-up sessions are one hour, private, and held over Zoom. We start with an intro session, and each follow-up builds on it.

Understand what drives your pattern, experience hypnosis for yourself, and leave with a clear plan, your first calming tool, and a session recording.

Quit smoking: common questions
- Does hypnosis work to quit smoking?
- Many people find hypnosis a helpful part of quitting, especially when smoking is tied to stress. Results vary from person to person, and I don't promise a guaranteed outcome. What hypnosis offers is a way to change the habit loop and rehearse a new response to cravings.
- How many sessions does it take to quit smoking with hypnosis?
- It depends on how long you've smoked and how many cues are tied to the habit. We start with a one-hour intro session ($199) to map your loop and plan your quit. Follow-up sessions ($260 each) target specific triggers. We'll agree on a plan together.
- Do you work with clients in White Plains and Westchester?
- Yes. I'm based in White Plains, NY, and work with people across Westchester County and beyond through virtual sessions over Zoom, so you can take part from home.
- Does this work for vaping too?
- Vaping runs on the same kind of habit loop as smoking: a cue, a routine, and a reward. The same approach applies, and we tailor the work to when and why you vape.
- Can I use nicotine patches or medication alongside hypnotherapy?
- Yes. Hypnotherapy can work alongside nicotine replacement or medication your doctor prescribes. Please talk to your doctor about the medical side of quitting.
- What if I slip and have a cigarette?
- A slip is information, not failure. We look at the cue that triggered it and target that in the next session. In Stoic terms, the slip is in the past, and your next choice is the one in your control.
